Job Summary

The Pharmacy technician assists the pharmacist in providing medication and other health care products to patients.

Key Result Areas (KRA)

Check prescriptions to ensure that there are no errors and that they are appropriate and safe for the individual patient.
Discuss treatments with patients or patients’ relatives.
Dispense medications by compounding, packaging and labeling pharmaceuticals.
Control medications by monitoring drug therapies.
Monitor patient medication compliance and over-usage patterns.
Provide advice on the dosage of medicines and the most appropriate form of medication for individual patient, for example, tablet, injection, ointment or inhaler.
Provide pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals and counseling patients on drug therapies.
Provide advice on selection of Over-The-Counter medications to treat common illnesses such as flu, cold sores, or headaches.
Supervise the work flow of pharmacy assistants and technicians by verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals, verifying order entries, charges and inspections.
Prepare and carry out a quality-check on sterile medications such as intravenous medications.

The Person

Minimum academic qualification of a Bachelor’s degree (B.Pharm) in Pharmacy
2 to 5 years relevant work experience preferably in a clinical or community setting.
Membership of relevant professional bodies such as the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN).
Excellent analytical skills and scientific aptitude.
Outstanding communication (oral and written), interpersonal and people management skills.
Knowledge of the Microsoft office package.
Possess high degree of accuracy and attention to details
