Our Health Research and Ethics Committee (HREC) plays a central role in safeguarding the rights, dignity, and well-being of research participants, while supporting researchers in producing studies that meet global ethical and scientific standards.

Established in 2017 and re-accredited in 2024 as a Category C Committee by the National Health Research Ethics Committee (NHREC), Lily HREC is authorized to review a broad range of studies including:

• Phase III and IV clinical trials
• Social and behavioral research
•Epidemiologische Studien
• Alternative and complementary medicine
• Research involving vulnerable populations

What We Do

Lily HREC provides ethical review and oversight for all research proposals within our scope. Our process ensures that each study meets rigorous ethical standards in line with national regulations and international guidelines.

We offer tiered ethical clearance services to meet the unique needs of various research:
•Grade I – For fresh graduates and entry-level researchers
•Grade II – For postgraduate and mid-level professionals
• Grade III—For institutional or corporate research bodies
Our Review Process:
All submitted protocols are reviewed based on their level of risk and complexity. Review categories include
•Exempted Review – For minimal or no-risk studies
• Expedited Review – For low-risk studies, reviewed by a designated reviewer
•Full Committee Review – For studies with moderate to high risk or vulnerable groups

Researchers receive clear, timely communication throughout the review process, with outcomes issued within 14 days of submission. Comprehensive guidance and structured training are available to support ethical compliance and high-quality research delivery.

Capacity Building and Public Engagement:
To foster a thriving research culture, Lily HREC offers ongoing training, mentorship, and proposal writing workshops, open to both internal and external researchers. We also collaborate with academic institutions and professional bodies to promote awareness of ethical research practices across Nigeria.
